Voice background and programme Group work

Voice is the Spirit of Enniskillen project building the capacity of young volunteers to lead a programme of 'dealing with difference' dialogue and learning events in school, community and international settings.

Where the Explore programme releases the interest and passion of young volunteers, the Voice project then channels this energy  into more focussed 'pathways of development' and facilitative leadership.

Critically, young people will absorb understanding and awareness through the modelling of behaviour by others. Being facilitated through a process of dialogue and learning by other young people also demonstrates the blend of skills and attitudes that are necessary to carry out this work effectively. It also impacts strongly on their motivation to deliver similar learning activities themselves.

When provided with the necessary training and support to meet their potential, our experience is that there are very many young people who are deeply interested in taking on responsibility for facilitating the learning of others. They are also very effective in doing this. Having experienced their own significant personal change on Explore, and being fully aware of how liberating this can be, serves to encourages their interest in supporting similar experiences for others. When they do plan and carry this out sucessfully, an even deeper level of learning and change is very often reached for both participants and volunteer facilitators.

Those motivated are encouraged through their active participation in a pool of volunteers working on Future Voices. Voice then supports them through a sequence of training and facilitation experiences, individually tailored to the potential of each volunteer. Supervision, selection and encouragement is provided throughout by experienced leaders and Spirit of Enniskillen staff.

VoiceAs well as providing a contribution to wider understanding and building a sense of personal identity, the process of facilitation is enjoyable, stimulating and rewarding in it's own right.

We have now a strong pool of committed and able young individuals giving their time freely in the Spirit of Enniskillen to support this work. Encouragement into opportunities appropriate to their individual capacity, as well as personal mentoring and training are the key elements of success.
